Nell was actually approached by the Mayor of Plano and convinced to open a second Thunderbird Roller Rink in Plano in 1972. The couple opened it because their daughter Patti was a competitive skater and she needed a place to practice. Thunderbird has been invested in good old-fashioned family fun since 1962 when Nell Sims and her husband Wayne opened the first Thunderbird Roller Rink in Richardson. Time may have passed, fashion and music may have changed, but kids and families have pretty much stayed the same. Walking in, it’s like you’ve jumped into the DeLorean and stepped 30 years into the past. I really hope this keeps people from booking their party here because I wouldn’t want anyone else to experience what I did for my 9 years old birthday.Thunderbird Roller Rink, located at 3200 Thunderbird Lane, is one of those places where you can disconnect from the technology of today and show your kids what real fun is. And all this was $325!! The sad part was that we have been faithful customers for 5 years and I’ve even had a birthday party here before. They also spent the entire time yelling at skaters over the loud speakers for putting their shoes down in the wrong places and trying their skates on in the wrong places and for helping kids on the skate floor. The staff was also extremely rude about it and had NO SYMPATHY for the horrible situation they put you in. And then we had to find somewhere to keep all our decorations, favors, and presents in the crowded rink. When my guests arrived, they just had to find us in the rink. I reserved a pizza party for 25 skaters and my guests were forced to eat pizza cake and drinks in 30 minutes. We scheduled the birthday from 2-4pm online but they don’t let you in the room until 3pm and then they kick you out at 3:30pm. Probably the worst birthday party experience out of all the birthday party’s we’ve hosted. Somebody PLEASE come build a nice, new roller rink and put this garbage place out of business. I hate everything about this place and everyone in it. The staff is horrible, the location is horrible, the food is bad, the rules and set up is a nightmare, the DJ continuously sets up these few stupid games over and over again. I have never, ever, ever had such a ridiculously horrible experience. I happened to catch her as she was almost done, coming back in. They put my kid in the money booth without me even being in there, because I was rushing back and forth trying to clean out the room. THIRTY MINUTES FOR 25+ KIDS? WHO CAME UP WITH THIS? Then, of course, because 30 minutes is such a short period of time, they're up your butt to try and get you out. The drinks came in random order, the kids were half done eating before most of the drinks came in. Their website has ZERO party pictures at all, I think to purposely hide how horrible these rooms are. To their credit (?) I did have a little extra time to put the few decorations I had out in the room - on a table, with the donut cake I made.īy the way, the rooms have HIDEOUS, trashy, neon decor that's apparently up there all the time. she very slowly brought food and drinks in an awkward order, once we were all in our room. So, the party host was one of the most useless human beings I have ever encountered. I didn't get to skate with my kid, I barely even got to SEE her the entire time she skated. So, I had to monitor the tickets and hope to find people as they came in, and try and guard all the gifts being brought, and bags and purses. So, they told me my room time was at 1 PM from our 12-2 party time. unlike every other place I've ever booked, they give you a random THIRTY MINUTES (even for 25+ kids) at a RANDOM TIME. Huh? I thought my time was at noon? Oh, no, silly me. I signed in with the very unpleasant old guy up front who seems like he barely knows what's going on, and he gives me tickets, and then tells me to go 'sign in' with the party lady who will give me a 'room time'. The carpets look like they have NEVER been vacuumed in the however-many-years it's been open. I'm surprised they're allowed to make food in a place as filthy as this place. I have been once before, but I didn't remember it smelling so awful. That has NEVER happened to me with all the places I've ever hired for my kid's birthdays.įirst off, the stench of this place hits you in the face as soon as you walk in. I literally left in tears and had no chance the entire time to actually enjoy my kid's birthday experience. Because, this place deserves every swear word in the book. It's going to be very hard to write this review without heavy use of swear words.
